John is a passionate and dedicated individual at the forefront of a new ministry in Emotional Intelligence (EQ.) After almost 30 years of local church ministry, John felt God’s call to serve fellow ministry leaders by founding We Do EQ. This organization utilizes the science of emotional intelligence to equip and empower ministry practitioners through training, coaching, and consulting.
With a diverse background in ministerial roles, John has served as a youth pastor, campus pastor, church planter, and senior pastor. His experiences have equipped him with a deep understanding of the human condition and a heart to help others navigate the complexities of their emotions. Years ago, while recovering from a particularly hard season of ministry, he began to explore core concepts of emotional intelligence alongside scripture for spiritual and emotional health, stress reduction, anxiety management, and greater resilience. These learnings became life-changing, and now John is enthusiastic about bringing EQ training to even more church leaders, helping strengthen their spiritual-emotional selves so that they “may have life and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10)
Since founding We do EQ, John has had the opportunity to coach individuals, share with clergy cohorts, teach webinar series, and train newly commissioned UMC pastors.
John holds a bachelor’s degree from Asbury University, a Master of Divinity degree from Asbury Theological Seminary, and a DMin. from United Theological Seminary. He has also attained a Master's level Executive Coaching Certification from Queens University's McColl School of Business. He is married to Anita, and they have three children: Rachel, Jaya, and Isaac. In his off hours, John is usually enjoying time with his family, hiking a trail, or finding new foods to try.
